When someone we deeply love crosses over into the spirit world, those of us left behind are often overwhelmed by a storm of emotions. Grief has a way of wrapping itself around us, and in those early days, it can be hard to sense anything beyond the ache in our hearts. That's completely natural. Our awareness of signs from the spirit world isn't yet sharpened - it takes time, and that's okay.
But as the days pass and we find a little more space to breathe, we might start to notice things. Lights flickering or turning on and off without explanation. Feathers appearing in unexpected places. A bird that seems to show up again and again, almost like it's watching over you. You might hear a song that holds deep meaning - like a whisper from above. Or suddenly, you keep seeing their name in the most random places. A penny on the ground. A soft breeze at just the right moment. These aren't coincidences.
These are gentle, loving signs from your loved one. It's their way of saying, "I’m still here. I haven’t left you."
After my son passed, he let me know he is still around in the most beautiful ways. The lights in our home became his playground—I’d be sure I’d turned them off, only to find them glowing again. His name, which is quite unique, began appearing on semi-trucks—nothing else on them, just his name, as if the universe was making sure I wouldn’t miss it. He even came through our cats, blending his energy with theirs. One of my deepest wishes was to hug him one more time—and every night, one of our cats would curl up beside me, place her cheek against mine, and wrap her paws around my neck, as if to say, "Here I am, Mom. I'm still loving you."
These moments—so tender and extraordinary—remind us that love never dies. Our connection with those we’ve lost is not broken; it’s simply changed. And if we stay open, even in our sorrow, we begin to feel them, see them, and know they are still with us.
