They're Still Parenting Me: When Spirit Shows Up to Guide, Not Just Grieve
When we lost someone who played a nurturing role in our lives, we often presume their guidance has ended.
We think:
"I wish I could ask her what to do."
"He would've known how to handle this."
"I'm on my own now."
One of the most beautiful, life-affirming truths I've witnessed through my work is this: love doesn't retire when someone passes.
And for those who parented us-whether by blood, bond, or heart-their role doesn't end at death. It evolves.
They're not gone.
They're not silent.
They are still looking out for us.
A Message that Changed Everything
I remember a session with a woman named Elena, who had lost her father two years earlier. She came to me hoping for closure-a chance to say goodbye.
What came through wasn't a farewell. It was direction.
As I was blending my energy I began to feel a strong, steady presence of a no-nonsense individual with a deep feeling of caring. There was a sensation of his hands adjusting her shoulders making sure she stood tall.
Then came a phrase: "Check the numbers."
Elena's eyes widened as she recalled that's what he used to say whenever I was making a big decision about money. He'd say, 'Don't go by feelings alone. Check the numbers.' I hadn't thought about that in years!!
He went on to offer her advice about a career decision she was contemplating. In that moment, it wasn't just comfort she received. It was a push. A father, from the other side, still doing what he always did: believing in her before she believed in herself.
She took the job a week later!
Often, the advice isn't what we want to hear-it's what we need to hear.
Because spirit sees the bigger picture.
They see your potential.
They see your path.
If you've been thinking, "I wish I could ask them what to do," I want to gently offer this: You can.
Try this:
Set an intention before you sleep:
"Loved one (name)-if you're near please send me a sign, a dream, or a feeling about this decision."
Pay attention to your body.
When you think of a choice, do you feel tightness-or a sense of ease? Spirit often communicates through your gut, your heart, your breath.
What keeps showing up? What memory surfaces? What phrase echoes in your mind? These aren't accidents-they're messages.
Trust the nudge.
That sudden urge to call someone, change a plan, or take a risk? It might be your loved one still parenting you-not with rules, but with love.
If you've been feeling lost, unsure, or like you've lost your compass-I would be honored to help you reconnect with the voice that still knows your name.
Whenever you're ready, I'm here.
