How to Prepare for Your First Mediumship Reading

How to Prepare for Your First Mediumship Reading

People often ask me what they should do beforehand to get ready for their first reading, as if there's a checklist that will guarantee a better outcome. I understand the instinct. When you've waited a long time for this, and it means so much, it's natural to want to do everything right. The truth is, the preparation that matters most has very little to do with logistics and everything to do with your own state of mind.

The most useful thing you can do is simply come with an open heart rather than a fixed agenda. I know that's easier said than done, especially if you've spent months hoping to hear something very specific. But readings tend to unfold most naturally when a person isn't gripping tightly to one particular outcome. That doesn't mean your hopes don't matter. It means holding them a little more loosely, so you can actually receive what comes rather than measuring everything against what you expected to hear.

You don't need to bring a long list of questions, although it's fine if you want to. What matters more is being ready to simply say yes or no honestly when I share something, rather than working hard to make a piece of evidence fit. The clearest, most meaningful readings happen when a sitter trusts their own immediate reaction instead of trying to force a connection.

It also helps to get a decent night's sleep beforehand if you can, and to avoid rushing into the reading straight from something stressful. You don't need to meditate for an hour or prepare in any elaborate spiritual sense. You simply want to arrive as calm and present as your circumstances allow, so you can actually notice and absorb what's happening instead of being distracted by everything else going on in your day.

I'd also gently encourage you to release any pressure to cry, or not cry, or to have a particular kind of emotional experience. Grief doesn't follow a script, and neither does healing. Some people leave a reading feeling deeply emotional. Others leave feeling strangely light and calm. Neither reaction is more correct than the other.

Above all, I'd say come as yourself. You don't need to be especially spiritual, and you don't need any prior experience with mediumship to have a meaningful reading. What matters most is your willingness to be present, honest, and open to whatever your loved one wants to share, even if it isn't exactly what you were expecting to hear.
