What to Expect in a Mediumship Session

What to Expect in a Mediumship Session: A Gentle Guide for First-Timers

If you've ever felt a deep longing to reconnect with someone who's passed, you're not alone. Many people arrive at a mediumship session with a mix of hope, fear, and curiosity. You might wonder: Will my loved one come through? Will I cry? Will I feel silly? These are all normal questions. A professional mediumship session is not about theatrics or fear—it’s about healing, clarity, and more often than not, profound peace.

At A Perfect Soul, my role as a medium is to gently hold space for your emotions, while acting as a clear and loving channel for spirit communication. Most sessions begin with grounding, followed by spirit impressions—memories, personalities, phrases, or physical sensations that a spirit communicator brings through. It's a sacred process, not a performance. Your loved ones bring through evidence to validate their presence: a favorite song, a childhood nickname, or something they said just to you. These moments remind you that love is never lost—it just changes form.

One of the most touching things I see is the moment someone realizes, “They really are still with me.” Shoulders relax. Tears flow. Smiles break through. Often, people leave a session feeling lighter—because that burden of wondering is replaced with knowing. That’s the gift of evidential mediumship: not just that someone came through, but that they brought meaning with them.

It’s also normal to have some initial discomfort. Some clients worry that they’re doing something wrong by seeking out a medium. But mediumship isn’t about disturbing the dead—it’s about reconnecting with life in a more truthful, loving way. For those who’ve experienced trauma or loss—especially unexpected loss—this connection can be a powerful step in their healing. If you’re carrying unspoken words or unresolved emotions, spirit often comes through with the exact message you need to hear.

If this resonates with you and you're curious about what your own session might hold, I invite you to take the next step. Visit www.aperfectsoul.com to book a session. Whether it’s your first time or you’ve worked with a medium before, each experience is unique—because your soul’s story is unique, too.

Unveiling the History of Mediumship: From Ancient Practices to Modern Healing.

Unveiling the History of Mediumship: From Ancient Practices to Modern Healing

Mediumship, the practice of communicating with the spirit world, has been an integral part of human history across various cultures and epochs. In ancient civilizations, such as Egypt, Greece, and Rome, individuals believed to possess the ability to connect with the divine or the deceased were revered and often held positions of spiritual authority. These early mediums served as intermediaries between the physical and spiritual realms, offering guidance, healing, and messages from beyond.

The 19th century marked a significant resurgence of interest in mediumship, particularly in Europe and the United States, with the rise of the Spiritualist movement. Figures like the Fox sisters in New York played pivotal roles in popularizing séances and spirit communication, asserting that the soul's journey continues after death. This era saw mediumship not only as a means of connecting with the departed but also as a source of comfort during times of widespread loss due to wars and epidemics.

Despite its longstanding presence, mediumship has often faced skepticism and fear, largely stemming from misconceptions and portrayals in popular media. However, many of these fears are unfounded. For instance, the notion that mediumship is inherently malevolent is a myth; in reality, most mediums focus on positive energies and aim to deliver messages filled with love and hope.

In contemporary times, mediumship continues to evolve, integrating with holistic healing practices and trauma-informed approaches. At A Perfect Soul, I embrace this evolution by offering mediumship sessions that prioritize emotional safety, empathy, and healing. By connecting clients with their loved ones in spirit, we work together to uncover messages that foster understanding, closure, and personal growth.

If you're curious about how mediumship can support your healing journey, I invite you to explore more at www.aperfectsoul.com. Whether you're seeking closure, guidance, or a deeper connection with the spiritual realm, a session can offer profound insights and comfort.

The Role of Spirit Guides in Mediumship: Who Are They and How Do They Assist?

In the practice of mediumship, spirit guides serve as invaluable allies, facilitating communication between the physical and spiritual realms. These guides are often souls who have attained a level of wisdom and choose to assist mediums in their work. They provide protection, insight, and support, ensuring that the messages conveyed are for the highest good.

Developing a relationship with your spirit guides involves patience, meditation, and trust. By attuning to their presence, mediums can enhance their abilities and navigate the complexities of spiritual communication with greater ease. Recognizing and honoring the role of spirit guides enriches the mediumistic experience, deepening the connections made during sessions.

Spirit guides can manifest in various forms, often aligning with the medium's cultural background or personal beliefs. Some may appear as ancestral figures, while others take on symbolic representations. Regardless of their form, the essence of their guidance remains consistent—to aid in the medium's spiritual development and the delivery of meaningful messages.

Establishing clear communication with spirit guides can be achieved through regular meditation practices. Creating a sacred space, setting intentions, and inviting your guides to connect can foster a stronger bond. Over time, this relationship becomes a cornerstone of ethical and effective mediumship.

Curious about how spirit guides might be working with you? Schedule a session and begin your journey at www.aperfectsoul.com.

Medium vs. Psychic: What’s the Difference?

Medium vs. Psychic: What’s the Difference?

(And why it matters more than you'd think)

If you’ve ever found yourself Googling “psychic vs. medium” at 2am, you’re not alone. These terms are often used interchangeably—and while there is some overlap, they’re not quite the same thing. Kind of like squares and rectangles. Or iced coffee and cold brew. Close, but with important distinctions.

So, let’s break it down—with clarity, compassion, and just a pinch of humor—because understanding the difference can help you get exactly the kind of spiritual support you’re looking for.

Let’s Start with the Psychic

A psychic is someone who can perceive energy, information, and impressions that are beyond the ordinary five senses. Psychics are often tuned into your energy field (also called your aura), and they may pick up on:

  • Past and current experiences
  • Emotional blocks or patterns
  • Possible future outcomes (because, yes—free will is still a thing)

You might go to a psychic when you’re feeling stuck in a relationship, unsure about a job decision, or wondering if you’ll ever get your groove back after 2020.

Psychics work with intuition—sensing energy, potential, and probability. Think of them like energetic weather forecasters. They can't control the storm, but they can give you a good heads-up on what’s blowing in.

Now Enter: The Medium

A medium is someone who communicates directly with the spirit world. That means loved ones who have passed on—your grandmother, your best friend, your child, your soulmate, even that uncle who always wore too much cologne and never quite got your name right.

Mediums act as a bridge between the physical world and the spirit world. The information they receive comes from spirit—not from your energy field. They’re tuned to a different frequency—like switching from AM to FM radio. Same device, different station.

You might go to a medium if you're longing to know:

  • Is my loved one okay?
  • Do they know I still talk to them?
  • Did they hear me say goodbye?
  • Are they still around me?

And let me reassure you: they’re not just okay—they’re more alive than ever. They just don’t need a body to prove it.

Can Someone Be Both? Yes. And I Am.

Many mediums (myself included) are also psychic, which means during a session you might receive both spiritual communication and intuitive insight. I often connect with loved ones in spirit who bring through their own messages of healing—and at the same time, I might also receive intuitive information about what’s happening in your life now.

It’s not multitasking so much as… soul-tasking.

But not all psychics are mediums. You can have strong intuitive gifts without the capacity (or desire) to communicate with the spirit world. Mediumship is a specific kind of sensitivity—one that involves tuning into the energy of consciousness that no longer has a physical form.

So... Who Should You Book With?

It depends on what you need. Here’s a quick cheat sheet:

If you're looking for...See a...
Clarity on a life decisionPsychic
Messages from a loved oneMedium
Spiritual guidance + connection to spiritMedium/Psychic (combo!)

Still not sure? Ask yourself: Am I looking for insight about life—or connection with someone beyond it?

One Isn’t “Better” Than the Other

This isn’t a spiritual competition. Psychic and mediumistic abilities are just different tools in the same sacred toolbox. One isn’t more “real,” more powerful, or more legitimate than the other. They serve different purposes. And both, when practiced ethically and from the heart, can be truly life-changing.

Final Thought: Trust Your Intuition

If you feel drawn to a medium or psychic, there’s likely a reason. You might not even be sure what you’re looking for yet—but spirit knows. And whether you’re seeking healing, clarity, closure, or comfort, the right person will show up when you’re ready.

(And if your grandmother comes through describing the exact necklace you buried her with? You’ll know you made the right call.)

Want to connect with a loved one in spirit or receive intuitive insight that brings peace and clarity?

I Wasn't Always an Evidential Medium… I Used to Think People Like Me Were WooWoo

Let’s get one thing straight: I didn’t grow up seeing spirits float around my bedroom or hearing ghostly whispers through the walls. Nope. I am a pretty normal human (whatever that means) who once believed that anyone talking to “the other side” was either highly imaginative or in desperate need of sleep.

And yet… here I am.

Becoming a medium wasn’t something I chased. It was more like Spirit slowly turned the volume up over time until I had no choice but to listen. The signs, the synchronicities, the knowing—they kept coming. And one day, I stopped writing them off and started leaning in.

I didn’t lose my mind. I found my soul.

Now, I help others connect with their own souls—and with their loved ones in spirit. And if you’ve ever wondered whether you’re crazy for sensing something bigger… maybe you’re just waking up.

My Journey Into Mediumship: How Spirit Called Me to Serve

My Journey Into Evidential Mediumship: How Spirit Called Me to Serve

I didn’t grow up knowing I was a medium. I wasn’t the kid seeing ghosts or hearing whispers in the dark. In fact, if you’d told me years ago that one day I’d be passing along messages from people’s loved ones in spirit, I would’ve looked at you like you just suggested I join the circus.

But life has a way of changing you in the most unexpected—and sometimes heartbreaking—ways.

Losing My Son Changed Everything

When my son passed, my world cracked open. The grief was unimaginable. It wasn’t just sadness—it was a soul-deep ache that touched every corner of my being.

But underneath the pain was something else: a fierce, unwavering desire to stay connected to him.

I didn’t know what that would look like—I just knew I couldn’t accept that he was gone. Not in the way people say it. Not in the way that felt final and unreachable.
I needed a way to stay in touch.

That desire—that mother’s love—is what led me to Evidential Mediumship.

I Had No Idea I Could Do This

I started exploring. I found teachers, mentors, and communities who understood the spirit world not as something scary or mysterious, but as something loving, intelligent, and very real.

I had absolutely no idea that I had evidential mediumship abilities. Truly. I didn’t feel “special.” I wasn’t trying to become a professional anything—I just wanted to find my son.

But once I began training, something opened up.
Messages started coming through.
Clear. Specific. Loving.
And not just from my son—but from other people’s loved ones, too.

I’ll never forget the first time I gave a message to someone that brought them to tears—the kind of tears that say “I didn’t even know how much I needed that.”

That’s when I knew. This wasn’t just about my healing anymore. It was about service.

Spirit Called Me to Be a Voice

The rest, as they say, is history.

What started as a mother’s need to connect became a calling to help others do the same.

I’ve since worked with many beautiful souls—both in spirit and in the physical world. I’ve seen what happens when someone hears from a parent, a child, a partner, or a best friend who has passed.
I’ve seen the weight lift. The heart soften. The healing begin.

And every time, I am humbled to be the voice spirit speaks through.

Yes, I Still Laugh About It Sometimes

I’m not going to pretend this is all serious and solemn. Spirit has a sense of humor. Some of the messages I’ve passed along over the years have made me laugh out loud mid-session.

Like the time a grandfather came through and insisted his granddaughter needed to stop dating “that guy with the weird hair.” (She knew exactly who he meant.)

Or the time someone’s mom showed me a pie, then insisted I say “not store-bought” out loud.

This work is sacred—but it’s also human. It’s joyful. It’s real.
And it reminds me, over and over again, that our loved ones don’t stop loving us just because they’ve left their physical body.

This Is What I Was Meant to Do

I never imagined I’d be here. But I’m so grateful I am.

Mediumship found me in the midst of deep grief.
It gave me a way to continue my relationship with my son.
And it gave me a way to help others find that same connection, healing, and hope.

If you’re longing to hear from someone you love, or even just curious about what the spirit world might have to say to you—I’d be honored to hold that space with you.

You can learn more or book a session at www.aperfectsoul.com.
Spirit already knows you're thinking about it. And they’re closer than you think.

Do Spirits Ever Get Stuck? What I’ve Learned About the Afterlife

It’s a question I hear a lot—sometimes whispered, sometimes blurted out in a rush of emotion:

“Do spirits ever get stuck?”
Closely followed by…
“What if my loved one didn’t cross over? What if they’re just… floating around somewhere?”

First, let me gently exhale with you: No, your loved one isn’t wandering around the astral plane lost like someone in a cosmic IKEA, unable to find the exit.

That’s not how the afterlife works. And while pop culture loves a good ghost story, the truth—what I’ve come to know through years of listening to spirit—is far more comforting, far more loving, and honestly… way less dramatic.

Here’s the truth: the soul knows how to get where it’s going.
It doesn’t need a map, GPS, or a flashlight. Crossing over isn’t like catching a connecting flight—you don’t miss your gate if you take too long saying goodbye.

When we leave our physical body, the soul returns to a state it already knows. It’s familiar. It’s safe. It’s guided. No one crosses over alone. Loved ones in spirit, ancestors, guides, and a whole support crew (think soul pit crew, not spooky committee) are there to welcome and walk with them.

It’s usually us—the ones still here—who are unsure, afraid, or stuck in the “what ifs.”

Now, you might be thinking, “But I’ve heard of spirits that hang around… isn’t that being stuck?”

Not quite.

Some spirits choose to stay close for a while—not because they’re trapped, but because they love us, and they know we could use a little help. Some are like,
“She’s crying in the laundry room again, I’m going to flick the lights until she feels me.”

Others just want to make sure their message gets through. Maybe they passed suddenly. Maybe they left things unsaid. Or maybe they’re just stubborn and want one last word (some personalities do not change after crossing, let’s be honest).

But lingering is not the same as being stuck. It’s more like popping back in to check on things. Spirit visits, not spirit captivity.

Let’s put a myth to rest here: the afterlife is not a haunted hallway.
There’s no soul limbo with elevator music and bad lighting. There’s no celestial waiting room where someone forgot to call your number.

The afterlife is love. It’s clarity. It’s peace.
It’s the soul remembering who it truly is—without the weight of fear, pain, or human struggle.

Even people who had hard lives or passed under difficult circumstances are not punished or banished. They are met with grace. With gentleness. With healing.

The spirit world doesn’t cancel people. It wraps them in understanding.

Let’s be real—if they had trouble navigating real-life escalators, sure, they may have taken the scenic route. But when it comes to crossing over? They’re fully supported. No one gets “left behind.” There are no soul stragglers dragging their ghost luggage through a misty fog.

So if you’ve been holding on to the worry that someone you love didn’t make it... please exhale.
They’re okay. Truly.

And chances are, they’ve been trying to tell you that for a while.

Besides popping in to send you feathers, flicker the lights, and somehow make the exact right song come on the radio at the exact right moment? They continue evolving. Learning. Watching over. Loving.

They’re not “gone.” They’ve just changed form.
Think of it like air turning into wind—you can’t see it, but you can feel it. Sometimes deeply.

If your person passed years ago and you’re just now feeling ready to connect, that’s okay. Spirit doesn’t age, forget, or check the calendar.
They don’t hold grudges. And they certainly don’t say,
"Well, it’s been a decade and she never called, so I’ve moved on."

Nope. They’re still there. Still loving you. Still hoping you’ll feel them.

One of the great surprises of mediumship? Spirits are still hilarious. They joke, they tease, they reference inside jokes you thought only you remembered. It’s one of the most healing parts of connecting—the realization that their personality, their essence, is still so alive.

Love doesn’t die.
Connection doesn’t die.
And apparently, sarcasm doesn’t die either.

They may be close.
They may be quiet.
They may be waiting for just the right moment to send a message through.

But they are not stuck.

They are safe. They are free.
And more than anything—they are still with you.

If your heart feels ready, I’d be honored to help you connect.
You can learn more about my mediumship sessions or book one at www.aperfectsoul.com.

When you're ready, they’re ready.

And if they show up cracking jokes and naming your childhood pets? Don’t say I didn’t warn you. 😉

Is It Too Soon (or Too Late) to Connect With a Loved One Who Passed?

When someone we love passes, we often find ourselves asking questions that feel too big, too heavy, or too tender to voice out loud. One of the most common questions I hear as a medium is:

“Is it too soon to connect with them?”

And, just as often:

“Did I wait too long?”

Grief doesn’t follow a schedule. And neither does spirit.

Whether your loss is recent or happened many years ago, the desire to reconnect comes from the same place: love. And the beautiful truth is, that love—the bond between your soul and theirs—doesn’t disappear with time. It transcends it.

In the early days of loss, our hearts are often wrapped in shock, disbelief, and deep pain. We’re still trying to comprehend what’s happened, and the world around us feels different—hollow, even.

Some people feel the urge to connect right away, to know their loved one is okay. Others wonder if they need to “wait” for spirit to settle on the other side.

Here’s what I’ve learned through spirit: they don’t need time—we do.
Spirit is often ready to reach out, eager to let you know they’re near. But if you're still deeply immersed in acute grief, it may be harder for you to feel or recognize their presence. Not because you’re doing anything wrong, but because pain can temporarily cloud awareness.

If you’re unsure, trust your inner knowing. There’s no rush. When you’re ready, spirit will meet you exactly where you are.

Time passes. Life moves on, even when our hearts feel like they’re standing still. And sometimes, people carry guilt or hesitation about reaching out to a loved one in spirit long after their passing.

You might wonder:

  • "What if they’ve moved on?"
  • "What if they’re no longer available?"
  • "What if I missed my chance?"

Let me reassure you: it is never too late.

I’ve facilitated connections with loved ones who crossed decades ago—and their messages are just as clear, just as loving, and often just as healing. Spirit doesn’t forget. They don’t hold time the way we do. What they care about is you—your heart, your healing, your willingness to connect.

Sometimes, waiting even allows for a deeper, more peaceful exchange—because time has softened the pain, and space has opened for reflection and presence.

Whether your loss was recent or long ago, if you feel a pull to connect, know that your loved one is already aware of that desire. In fact, they’ve likely been trying to reach you—through memories, signs, dreams, or moments of sudden warmth or peace.

There’s no perfect timeline. Spirit works in alignment with love, not clocks. And they’re incredibly patient, wise, and gentle in the way they come through.

Every reading is different. Some bring closure. Others bring laughter. Some bring long-awaited answers, while others offer nothing more (and nothing less) than the deep reassurance: “I’m still with you. You are not alone.”

So, is it too soon? Too late?

No, love. It’s never too soon. And it’s never too late.

It’s always just… love. And love doesn’t expire.

If you're feeling called to connect with someone in spirit, I invite you to follow that nudge.

When the heart is ready, spirit always responds.

How to Prepare for a Reading With a Medium

Booking a reading with a medium is a deeply personal step. For many, it comes at a time of grief, longing, or a heartfelt desire for connection with someone they’ve lost. Whether this is your first time or you’ve sat with a medium before, it’s natural to feel a mix of emotions—curiosity, nervousness, hope, even doubt.

First, allow me to reassure you: you don’t have to “do” anything special to be worthy of hearing from your loved ones in spirit. They already know you're coming, and they’re often just as eager to connect with you as you are with them.

Still, there are a few gentle ways you can prepare—emotionally and energetically—to help you feel more grounded and open to the experience.

1. Set an Intention, Not an Expectation

Before your reading, take a few quiet moments to reflect. What is your heart longing for? Is there someone specific you hope to hear from? A question you carry in your soul? While setting an intention can help center you, try not to form rigid expectations. Spirit communication is led by love, not control—and the soul who comes forward is often the one you need most, even if it’s not who you expected.

2. Keep an Open Mind and Heart

Mediumship is a conversation between two worlds. It’s often subtle, symbolic, and layered with meaning. Your loved one may come through with memories, names, shared experiences, or personality traits that help you recognize them. Some messages might feel clear, while others might take time to fully understand. The more open you are, the more space there is for the connection to unfold naturally.

3. Know That Spirit Leads the Way

You don’t need to bring photos or personal items (unless it brings you comfort). Mediums connect with the energy of your loved ones, and that energy is always accessible. I never know in advance who will come through—it’s always the soul with the strongest message or the deepest need to make their presence known. And they never come empty-handed.

4. Simple Responses Are Best During the Reading

To keep the connection with spirit strong, you’ll be asked to respond with short answers like yes, no, maybe, or I don’t know. This allows the medium to stay focused and prevents interpretation from getting in the way of the message. There will be time at the end to ask questions or offer feedback, so don’t worry about holding back.

5. Allow the Emotions to Come

It’s completely okay to cry. To laugh. To feel surprised or even overwhelmed. A reading can stir emotions you haven’t touched in a long time—or bring a deep sense of peace you didn’t expect. Whatever comes up, know that it’s part of the healing, part of the love. There is no right or wrong way to feel.

6. After the Reading, Give Yourself Time

Many people say they feel a softness in their heart or a quiet stillness after a session. Others feel energized and light. Take a little time afterward to reflect or rest. Journaling your thoughts and any messages that stood out can be a beautiful way to honor the experience and continue the healing process.

Most of All, Know This:

Your loved ones are not gone. They’ve simply stepped into another form—one that doesn’t require a body, but still holds all the love, wisdom, and connection you shared. A mediumship reading is a sacred opportunity to experience that love again in a new way.

If you're feeling called to connect with a loved one in spirit, I would be honored to walk that path with you.

You can learn more about my process, read client experiences, or book a session at www.aperfectsoul.com.

The soul-to-soul bond you share with your loved one is eternal—and sometimes, the right words from the spirit world can bring the kind of healing that changes everything.

Messages I’ve Received That Changed Everything

Grief has a way of enveloping us, making the world feel distant and unfamiliar. Yet, within this profound sorrow, there lies a bridge—a connection to the spirit world that offers comfort, healing, and a renewed sense of closeness to those we've lost. Through my journey as an evidential medium, I've witnessed countless moments where messages from the other side have transformed grief into peace. Here are a few stories, shared with permission and anonymized for privacy, that illuminate the profound healing power of spirit communication.

A woman, whom we'll call Mary, came to me, her heart heavy with the loss of her teenage daughter. The pain was palpable, and she yearned for any sign that her daughter was at peace. During our session, her daughter's spirit came through with a vibrant energy, sharing specific details about a cherished family vacation and a secret handshake they shared. These intimate memories, known only to Mary and her daughter, brought tears of both sorrow and joy. The message was clear: love transcends physical boundaries, and their bond remains unbroken.

John had lost his father unexpectedly and struggled with unresolved feelings and unanswered questions. In our reading, his father's spirit communicated a heartfelt apology for past misunderstandings and expressed immense pride in John's recent accomplishments. The spirit also mentioned a unique family heirloom—a pocket watch—that John had recently found but knew little about. This acknowledgment provided John with the closure he desperately sought, mending the emotional rift and reaffirming his father's enduring guidance.

Lisa was grappling with the sudden passing of her younger brother. She felt an overwhelming sense of guilt, believing she could have done more to prevent his death. During our connection, her brother's spirit conveyed a playful energy, reminding Lisa of their childhood pranks and shared laughter. He emphasized that his passing was not her fault and urged her to release the burden of guilt. This message allowed Lisa to begin her healing journey, embracing the joyful memories they created together.

These stories are testaments to the profound healing that can occur when we open ourselves to messages from the spirit world. Each connection serves as a reminder that our loved ones continue to watch over us, offering guidance, love, and reassurance from beyond. While grief may never fully dissipate, these spiritual communications can transform our pain, providing solace and a renewed sense of connection.

If you're navigating the troubled waters of loss, do know that you're not alone. The spirit world holds messages of hope and healing, waiting to be received when you're ready.

Note: The experiences shared above are based on actual readings and testimonials from clients of A Perfect Soul. Names and specific details have been changed to respect privacy.

If you feel drawn to explore a connection with a loved one who has passed, or you're seeking comfort and clarity as you navigate your grief, I invite you to take the next step.

You don’t have to walk this path alone.

Spirit has messages for you—messages of love, reassurance, and healing—and I would be honored to help you receive them.

Let’s open the door to a deeper connection—one that reminds you that love never dies.
